Employee Spotlight: Mario Mijares — Making an Impact in Yokosuka, Japan

Goldbelt is proud to recognize Mario Mijares, SARP Counselor, for his outstanding contributions to the U.S. Navy community at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan. Mario supports the Allied Health program under Program Manager Jen Juliano, providing critical services through the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP). Mario’s impact, however, has extended well beyond his day-to-day responsibilities as a counselor.

Through his extensive training in evidence-based interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy, Mario helped strengthen collaboration between SARP and the Mental Health Clinic. His expertise played an important role in the development, implementation, and continued success of “Vibe Check,” an intensive outpatient group therapy program available to active-duty service members and their dependents. His leadership and contributions helped enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of behavioral health services at Yokosuka.

In April 2026, Mario’s work as part of the Vibe Check team received significant recognition at the U.S. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Yokosuka Continuous Process Improvement Fair. The team earned First Place in both Lean Six Sigma categories: DMAIC for “Enhancing Mental Health Group Efficacy through Program Consolidation” and DMADV for “Systematic Redesign of Mental Health Group Therapy Services through DMADV.”
Mario’s commitment was further recognized when he was named the Directorate of Mental Health Star of the Month for June 2026. In a Letter of Appreciation, leadership praised his consistent presence, professionalism, expertise, and contributions to the success and self-sustainment of the SARP program. His work ultimately supports the broader mission of maintaining medical readiness for approximately 77,000 Fleet Forces Japan personnel operating throughout INDOPACOM.

For Program Manager Jen Juliano, Mario’s accomplishments are an example of the impact Goldbelt employees can have when they bring both expertise and genuine commitment to the mission.
“Mario represents exactly what we hope to see from our team members supporting military communities overseas. He didn’t simply fulfill the requirements of his position. He brought his expertise forward, collaborated with the clinical team, and helped build something that made the program stronger. Seeing his work recognized by Navy leadership and earn first place in two process improvement categories makes us incredibly proud to have him on our team,” said Jen Juliano, Program Manager.
